About

Formerly a commercial woodshop, this artist's studio was cleared and restored as a working and living space for painting and visual research. The interior architecture highlights the existing plywood floors, walls, ceiling, and windows as the delineating elements of the space. Almost anything in this space is readable as a reference for artistic inspiration. The industrial steel windows, powder coated in Safety Yellow are part of this spectrum between the functional aspects of design and the objecthood of an artwork.

The spatial quality of the studio interior transitions to the outdoor garden as an exterior room beyond the rear facade of the building. The garden deck steps down from the studio as a terraced landscape for plants and people. The lower level of the garden is configured in reference to a commercial-sized Babbcok and Wilcox water-tube steam boiler built circa 1901.
