About

In the Lower East Side, art and culture have been mingling with local neighborhood life for decades. Rachel Uffner’s gallery on Suffolk street continues this exchange by converting a light-industrial garage into a destination for experiencing art in a diverse cluster of interior exhibition spaces. The architectural intervention is minimal and makes the most of the existing conditions including 3 exhibition spaces, twenty-foot-high ceilings in the main gallery space, and an abundance of natural light on the second floor. At the street façade, the glass storefront has been adapted to incorporate planting beds along the sidewalk.

Rachel Uffner’s gallery is recognized as an important platform for introducing new artistic voices, and championing female and gender non-conforming artists; the variety of exhibition spaces supports this program. The 'Upstairs Gallery' has been designated as a space to present project-based shows and allows for outside curators and artists to organize exhibitions that complement the gallery’s program.
